Electric vehicles: Everything you need to know about the new measures
In order to reduce the emissions produced by the combustion of diesel and gasoline vehicles, the European Union has approved a directive that will prohibit the sale of these vehicles from 2035. This means that, as of that year, the brands will only will be able to sell electric cars and hydrogen fuel cell cars in Europe.
Parallel to this measure, a Royal Decree has been approved that will require the installation of charging points for electric cars. What is required with this new law is the obligation to install charging points for electric cars in a wide variety of spaces before January 1, 2023. This will not only affect gas stations or service stations, but it will also be mandatory for private non-residential car parks and some public buildings. All public car parks or companies that have more than 20 spaces must have, by law, at least 1 recharging point for electric vehicles.
Incentive for the installation of charging points
In order to facilitate the installation of charging points, the government has launched the MOVES III Plan. This is a help for the installation of charging points of up to 80% of the eligible cost (variable amount depending on the municipality), for individuals, self-employed and for the administration without economic activity. In the case of companies and public entities with economic activity, the help can be up to 60% of the eligible cost. The MOVES 3 Plan also includes aid for communities of owners who wish to carry out pre-installation or installation of recharging points, these actions are also eligible for subsidies and the aid can lead to a reduction of up to 80% of the cost without VAT of the project.
Who should apply for the grant?
In the communities of Andalusia, Galicia and Madrid, it is the installation company that must carry out the application process for the subsidy. However, for the rest of the autonomous communities, it is the beneficiary who must take care of the process.
MOVES III in Andalucía
In the specific case of Andalusia, the deadline for submitting applications is open from September 20, 2021. As mentioned above, in this community the installation company is in charge of making the aid application for the beneficiary. Something to note that affects Andalusia is that the beneficiary must apply for a building license before beginning the installation of the recharging point.
